Aadhaar has become one of the most credible government documents that serve as both proof of identity and proof of address.
The applicability of Aadhaar quickly becomes mandatory in all areas in India. Bio metric information refers to iris, fingerprints and facial photography, whose fingerprint and iris data are to be used for authentication. Many fear the possibility of misuse of information linked and stored in connection with Aadhaar. You can protect the privacy and confidentiality of your bio metric data. Once the bio metrics are locked, the holder of the Aadhaar will not be able to use their bio metrics (fingerprints/iris) for authentication and no one else will be able to do so, which will prevent potential abuse. 5. Locking of Aadhaar number
6. Unlocking of Aadhaar
To benefit from these SMS services, your mobile phone number must be registered with your Aadhaar card. To benefit from a specific service by SMS, you must send SMS in a format specified in 1947.
How to generate a virtual ID:
To generate a virtual id, you need to send an SMS to 1947 from your registered mobile number.
From your registered mobile number, send an SMS to 1947 in the format of: GVID Last four digits of your Aadhaar number
Once the SMS has been sent, UIDAI will send you an SMS containing your 16-digit virtual id.
The PAN card, as well as the Aadhaar card, are unique identification cards which serve as proof of identity which is required for registration and verification purposes.
The government has made all entities to link their PAN cards to their Aadhaar cards. This is done for the following purposes:
If someone wants to download the e-Aadhaar card, they will also be able to download the masked Aadhaar card. You can select the option to download the masked Aadhaar card instead of the regular Aadhaar card.
Masked Aadhaar vs normal Aadhaar: The Masked Aadhaar Card option allows you to hide the Aadhaar number in the downloaded e-Aadhaar. The hidden Aadhaar number involves replacing the first 8 digits of the Aadhaar number with certain characters such as"XXXXXXXX0000". In this format only the last 4 digits of the Aadhaar number are visible. The regular Aadhaar card displays 12 digits.
However, the masked Aadhaar card shows key details like smart QR code, photography and demographic information.
Steps to download the masked Aadhaar map from the UIDAI website:
Masked Aadhaar Card Password: You will need a password to open your masked Aadhaar. Your masked 8-digit Aadhaar password must contain the first four letters of your name and year of birth recorded on the Aadhaar card.
The Indian government funds a number of social protection schemes for the poor and most vulnerable in society. Aadhaar and its platform offer a unique opportunity for the government to streamline its welfare delivery mechanism and thereby ensure transparency and good governance.
For governments, service agencies:
The UIDAI only issues the Aadhaar number to residents after having duplicated their demographic and biometric attributes compared to its entire database.
Aadhaar authentication eliminates duplicates under various regimes and is expected to generate substantial savings for the public treasury. It also provides accurate beneficiary data to the government, enables direct benefit programs, and enables government departments / service providers to coordinate and optimize various plans. Aadhaar will allow implementing agencies to verify beneficiaries and ensure targeted distribution of benefits. All these activities will lead to:
Minimize leakage through targeted delivery:
Social protection programs in which beneficiaries need to be confirmed before service delivery will benefit from UIDAI authentication services. This will reduce leakage and ensure that services are only provided to the intended beneficiaries. Examples include the delivery of subsidized food and kerosene to beneficiaries of the public distribution system (PDS), the presence on site of beneficiaries of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme(MGNREGS), etc.
Improving productivity and effectiveness:
The Aadhaar platform gives secured and clear information about the service delivery mechanism, the government can improve disbursement systems and use scarce development funds more effectively and efficiently, including better use of human resources involved in the service delivery network.
For residents:
The Aadhaar system provides unique offline / online identity verification across the country for residents. Once residents are registered, they can use the Aadhaar number to authenticate and establish their identity multiple times using electronic means or through offline verification, as appropriate. It eliminates the hassle of repeatedly providing supporting identification whenever a resident wishes to access services, benefits and grants. By providing portable proof of identity that can be verified via Aadhaar authentication online anytime, anywhere, the Aadhaar system enables the mobility of millions of people migrating from one part of the country to another.
The Income-tax department has launched the service to get e-PAN based on Aadhaar card, a measure that should reduce interaction with the service and help taxpayers generate the permanent account number (PAN) hassle-free.
The installation is free and you can connect to the income tax portal to generate the e-PAN. It is available for individual resident taxpayers and not for Hindu Undivided Families (HUF), Traders, trusts and businesses, and is open for a limited period on a first-come, first-served basis for Aadhaar holders valid.
You will not need to submit documents. The e-PAN will be generated by using your Aadhaar personal details. So you need to make sure that these details are updated as the e-KYC will be done using the Aadhaar database.
Once the e-KYC is successful based on the Aadhaar OTP protocol, the e-PAN application process will be launched. You will need to download a scanned copy of your signature on white paper with the specifications listed on the income tax website. After submitting the request, a 15-digit acknowledgement number will be generated and sent to your mobile phone/email number mentioned in the request form.
While there are many grievances regarding the Aadhaar card, the most common ones that Indian residents face are listed below with their solutions:
1. What to do when the UIDAI rejects a resident and does he/she not receive an Aadhaar card?
If this problem occurs, the valid reasons for the rejection of a resident are communicated to the registrar. Any action taken after a refusal will also be communicated to both parties.
2. What to do when a resident misplaces or loses his Aadhaar card?
If a resident misplaces or loses his Aadhaar card or does not have his Aadhaar number, he can then contact the customer care concerned by telephone, letter or e-mail. The resident can do this using their registration number and a request can be sent to the centre to send another Aadhaar card.
However, fees may be charged to benefit from this service. If Aadhaar is used by the resident to use some kind of service, the resident can acquire the Aadhaar number by contacting the agency that offered the service.
3. What if the Aadhaar card does not reach the intended resident or if the delivery has failed?
If the aadhaar card is not issued to the person concerned, he must contact the UIDAI contact centre and provide him with his registration number. Alternatively, a resident can connect to the official UIDAI website and check the status of their Aadhaar request by filling in the required information on the site.
4. What if the Aadhaar card contains spelling or other demographic errors?
At the time of registration, the resident must enter the correct details as per the documents. Since the resident can see the data entry, he/she must verify that there are no errors or mistakes before submitting the information. However, if the information provided still contains errors, the resident has another opportunity to correct the errors before sending them for finalization. If the errors are not identified and corrected, the registration confirmation letter will be printed in accordance with the information submitted. Even if the errors are not identified and corrected after this step, the resident may have to go to the registration centre to make a demographic correction. This must be done within 2 days of registration. In addition, the resident must present all documents relevant to the corrections and the registration form at the centre.
5. What if the names in Aadhaar and PAN are different? Do they create a problem when linking?
To link Aadhaar and PAN, a person's demographic information (date of birth, gender, name, etc.) must match. Even a slight offset can cause a problem during the link.
The process will fail and there will be a prompt to change the name in the database. This is another separate procedure, which involved administrative formalities. If everything is correct, a one-time password (OTP) is sent to the registered mobile number to ensure that the gender and date of birth in Aadhaar and PAN are the same.
6. Can the UIDAI website / aadhaar online services be accessed outside of India?
The official UIDAI government site is accessible despite the location. There are no restrictions on them. But there are a few web portals available depending on geographic policies. Therefore, these features are not available outside of India. These include Aadhaar link status, SSUP (self-service update portal), resident portal, e-Aadhaar, etc.
7. Usually, a child receives his blue Aadhaar. Is it valid?
Yes, it is a valid aadhaar card. According to the latest Aadhaar policies, the UIDAI gives blue Aadhaar to children between and 5 years of age. After the age of 5, the blue Aadhaar issued becomes invalid. Therefore, the child must have their biometric and demographic information updated at the nearest Aadhaar enrollment centre with the same aadhaar number. If this is not done in time, the aadhar becomes invalid.
8. If an aadhaar has been updated recently and indicates manual verification, what does this mean?
Indeed, the aadhaar is updated in the system and it takes at least 90 days. However, if the status remains the same even after 90 days, you can contact the authorities by calling the toll free number - 1947 or send them an email to [email protected] for assistance.
