mAadhaar

mAadhaar is an official app launched by the UIDAI to provide a platform for aadhar cardholders to carry their details related to demographic and photos with them in their smartphones.

The app enables the aadhar cardholder to add his profile in and grants access to the app as per the user's requirements. The user can create up to three aadhar profiles in this app. The mAadhaar app is well protected and secured and the user has to use the password to open the app every time, thus ensuring safety to the personal details of the cardholder as well as protection from fraudsters.

  • It reduces the need to carry the physical aadhar card every time.
  • The mAadhaar is a secured app as it has a time-based OTP (one-time-password) feature, instead of the SMS based OTP feature.
  • Biometric Locking / Unlocking – The mAadhaar app comes up with a unique feature, wherein the user can lock and unlock the biometric data. The user can lock the biometric details on the app and it will remain locked until the user unlocks the same.
  • The user can use this app to complete the eKYC for financial and banking transactions.
  • The user can also share the eKYC with any of the service providers.
  • The user can share the data with the third-party applications via NFC, QR codes, bar codes or even e-mail the details.

mAadhaar Download in Mobile Phone

The mAadhaar app can be downloaded on the mobile phone by following the simple steps as mentioned below:

Step 1: Visit the Google Play Store in your mobile


Step 2: Click on the install button
Step 3: Allow the required permission for the mAadhaar app for download
Step 4: The mAadhaar gets installed on your phone
Step 5: Set in a password for the app

Please Note:

  • This password should be entered every time at the time of logging in to the mAadhaar app.
  • The password should comprise of 4 digits and should contain all numerals.
  • The password set by the user will keep the Aadhar details secure even if the phone is in unauthorized hands.

Procedure to Lock/Unlock Biometrics via mAadhaar App

The Aadhar Card authorized authority UIDAI has provided a facility to the users of mAadhaar app to lock or unlock biometric details. One can lock or unlock the biometrics or even disable the same by visiting the official web portal of UIDAI. One should note that the registered mobile number in aadhar card should be linked with your mobile number to avail this facility.

Steps to Lock/Unlock Biometrics via mAadhaar App

Step 1: Download the mAadhaar app on your mobile and open the app
Step 2: Login to the app using the user id and password
Step 3: Click on the profile and open it
Step 4: Click on the ‘Biometric Settings’ from the menu option which can be found on the top right corner of the app
Step 5: Tick the ‘Enable Biometric Lock’ option
Step 6: A disclaimer will pop up which shows that the biometrics may still be used for the next six hours.
Step 7: Proceed further and click on the ‘OK’ option
Step 8: An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number in aadhar
Step 9: The OTP will be automatically fed by the app
Step 10: Your biometric details will immediately get locked.

Follow the below-mentioned steps to unlock the biometric details temporarily

Step 1: Visit the mAadhaar app
Step 2: Go to the top-right menu and click on the ‘Biometric Settings’
Step 3: A message will be displayed which reads as “Your biometrics will be temporarily unlocked”
Step 4: Click on the ‘Yes’ option
Step 5: Your biometric details will be unlocked for 10 minutes
Step 6: If you prefer to disable the biometric lock, then you can do so by visiting the UIDAI website.

Procedure to add profile in mAadhaar app

It is mandatory to first add your profile in the app to use the mAadhaar app. The profile will get added, only if the mobile number is mentioned in the Aadhaar is the same that is being used in the smartphones. Follow the below-mentioned steps to add your profile in mAadhaar app:

Step 1: Open the mAadhaar app
Step 2: Enter your password to login to the app
Step 3: Proceeding further, select the three dots on the upper right corner of the interface.
Step 4: Select the ‘Add Profile’ option.
Step 5: Enter your Aadhaar number or scan the QR code on your Aadhar card
Step 6: Proceed further and click on next button
Step 7: Give relevant permissions to the app to access your phone’s SMS
Step 8: An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number in aadhar
Step 9: The app will automatically detect the SMS from UIDAI and will enter the OTP
Step 10: The app will download your Aadhaar details in your smartphone

Please Note: You can access the mAadhaar app any time whenever you want to use Aadhaar as it is auto-downloaded. One can view both the front and backside of the aadhar in mAadhaar app.

Procedure to Delete Profile in mAadhaar app

Your Profile in the mAadhaar app will get automatically deleted once the SIM is removed happens to be the registered mobile number in Aadhar. In case if you are upgrading your mobile phone or switching on to a new mobile connection, then one should delete your profile and uninstall the mAadhaar app as a safety measure before handing it over to someone else.

Steps to Delete Profile in mAadhaar App

Step 1: Visit the mAadhaar app
Step 2: Enter the password to login
Step 3: Proceed further and click on your profile to open it
Step 4: Now select the three dots on the top right corner of the app
Step 5: Now select the ‘Delete Profile’ option
Step 6: You will be asked to enter your app’s password.
Step 7: A message will get displayed asking whether you are sure to delete the profile
Step 8: Proceed further and click on the ‘Yes’ button.
Step 9: Now your profile will get deleted from the mAadhaar app
