The initiative by the government of India to provide a unique identification number to all the residents in India is yielding fruitful results. The UIDAI has so far enrolled more than 92% of the total residents in the country with respect to aadhar card. Despite being a tedious task, the UIDAI has come up with many aadhar enrollment centres across the length and breadth of the country wherein people can check, verify or manage various facilities that will increase the portability and acceptance of the 12 – digit biometric identity proof. The aadhar card services are available round the clock for 365 days in the year and are absolutely free of cost.
The following are some of the aadhar card services provided by the UIDAI to all the resident Indians:
The aadhaar biometric locking or unlocking is one of the most effectively used security feature of aadhaar card services.
This facility allows an individual to lock their respective biometric details and prevents the same from being misused. Once a person locks their respective biometric data, their fingerprints and iris scan will be disabled. One can unlock it temporarily if they wish to use their biometric. Once unlocked, the biometric authentication will remain active for 10 minutes to enable the user to carry out their task. After completion of 10 minutes, the biometric data will be locked automatically. If in case, you do not want to add this protection then you can disable the same by unlocking the biometric lock.
The aadhaar authentication history helps the users to know the transactions wherein aadhaar has been invoked for authentication. The following is the procedure for checking the aadhaar authentication:
Step 1: Visit the official web page of UIDAI.
Step 2: Click on “My Aadhaar” option
Step 3: Select ‘Aadhaar Authentication History’ option under Aadhaar Services
Step 4: Now enter the 12 digit aadhaar card number in the space provided followed by the security code as shown in the screen.
Step 5: Now click on Send OTP button.
Step 6: Now select the date range, authentication type, number of results and the OTP will be sent to your phone.
Step 7: Now click on the submit button.
Step 8: All the results related to aadhaar authentication history will be displayed on the screen wherein transaction ID, date, authentication type and other details will be shown.
The virtual identification is a 16 digit temporary code which is generated against an aadhar number. This number will be usually issued and used instead of aadhar number. An applicant need not have to share his aadhar card if he/she provides the VID. All the agencies will have to make necessary provisions to accept the VIDs in place of Aadhaar at the earliest by June 1, 2018.
