Andhra Bank SWIFT Code

You have definitely come over the need to find a swift code (or BIC code) and when seeking to transfer funds to a different bank than yours, you were asked for it by banking services. This is because practically every bank in the world is a member of the swift network and responsible for money transfers and messages between financial (and also non-financial) organizations, and the use of these codes is mandated by this system. Swift code is a distinctive code for the branch of each institution in the world. This code is utterly necessary for the secure transfer of money from one institution to another and our website is a dedicated web portal for these codes and the entities that hold them. Unlike the institution that first adopted them (SWIFT-Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication), these codes became known as swift codes but were subsequently standardised as BIC (Business Identifier Codes). A swift code generally consists of 8 or 11 characters. Simply stated, most of the time, you just need a swift eight-character code composed of three parts: the first four digits represent the institution, the middle two digits represent the country and the last 2 digits represent the branch or location. After all, in some situations, you will need the eleven-digit code, which also contains the branch identifier, if your bank processes payments through a particular branch.

Breakdown of Andhra Bank SWIFT Code

The Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) is a universal form of Business Identifier Codes accepted by the International Organization for Standardization ( ISO) (also known as ISO 9362, SWIFT-BIC, BIC code, SWIFT ID or SWIFT code).

For both financial as well as non-financial institutions, it is a specific identification code. (A code can also be known as a Business Entity Identifier or BEI when allocated to a non-financial institution.) These codes are used for transferring money across banks, especially for international wire transfers, and also for swapping other messages between banks. Both SWIFT and BIC codes are the same which can be easily found on account statements.

A SWIFT code generally consists of 8 or 11 characters, for instance BBBBUS3M489

  • The first four codes ‘BBBB’ represents the bank or institution code
  • The next two letters ‘US’ reflects the country
  • The next two letters ‘3M’ represents the location
  • If '0' is the second character, then, as compared to a BIC used on the live network, it is usually a test BIC.
  • If '1' is the second character, then it signifies a passive SWIFT network participant.
  • If the second character is "2," then a reverse billing BIC is usually implied, where the receiver pays for the message as compared to the more common mode wherein the sender bills for the message.
  • The last three letters ‘489’ represents the branch

Why Indian Financial System Code is required while making fund transfer?

In order to identify a branch, the Andhra Bank IFSC Code is an 11-character code issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). For each Andhra Bank branch, there are different IFSC codes. The bank's name is represented by the first four characters of the IFSC Code of Andhra Bank, while the fifth character is zero. The RBI purposefully positions the IFSC Code's fifth character as zero for use if needed in the future. The next six characters are specific to the Andhra Bank branch and are used mainly for the identification of a single branch. According to the IFSC code, it has become easier and simpler than ever to make online fund transfers through NEFT, RTGS or IMPS. It is now possible to send or receive money online 24/7 on all days of the year with the authorization of the RBI.

What happens when you use an incorrect IFSC Code?

The money will be debited from your account but not transferred to the recipient if you type an inaccurate IFSC code while performing a fund transfer electronically. If the recipient has an account with Andhra Bank and you have used the IFSC code of another branch of that bank, Andhra Bank will make an internal settlement and credit the balance to the recipient's account. If the inaccurate IFSC code is from another bank, then you can send an application with information such as your account number and transaction ID to the beneficiary's bank branch.
