How to Apply for PAN Card

Applicant willing to apply for PAN is mandated to fill the Form 49A only for Indian citizens, Indian companies, Entities Incorporated in India and Unincorporated Entities of India. The applicant who are not resident of India, Entities Incorporated outside India and Unincorporated Entities outside India are mandated to fill Form 49AA to obtain PAN card. Both the PAN application form can be downloaded from the official website of Income Tax Department. The applicant who needs the form through offline procedure can easily avail the form through IT PAN Service Centers and TIN facilitation centers like UTI & NSDL.

The applicant has to submit the form along with the related documents like identity proof, resident proof and proof of date of birth along with two recent passport size colour photographs and prescribed fees of Rs 94/- which includes processing fees of Rs 85/- and Rs 9/- for service tax. Designation and Code of concerned Assessing office of Income Tax Department must be mentioned by the applicant in the PAN application form.

Online PAN Card Apply

Online method is the most comfortable way to apply for a PAN card. It takes 5-10 minutes maximum to complete the process. To avail, the new PAN card tax payers have to apply a form called Form 49A which is available online.

Through NSDL Portal

  • First, you have to visit the official website TIN NSDL to apply for a new PAN card for Indian citizens only.
  • Now click on the option New PAN card for Indian citizens
  • Now you will see a new page which is most important for the applicant. This page contains Do's and Don't in the application and instructions for how to fill a PAN card. Carefully read all the instructions and click on Online Application for New PAN(Form 49A).
  • Now you will see a new page where the applicant has to give his/her own information. Now in the drop-down box of applicant type select New PAN-Indian Citizen(Form 49A) and also select the category type as Individual.
  • After this fill your all personal details along with your Aadhar number if you have.
  • Enter the security code carefully and thoroughly check your all the given details before submitting.
  • Click on submit and the now you will be redirected to the payment page, where you have to pay charges of Rs 94.
  • You can pay the amount by Cheque or DD in favour of NSDL or you can also pay the charges through e-payment like credit card, debit card or net banking.
  • After the successful payment, you will get an acknowledgement number page which you have to take a print out.
  • Now fix your recent passport size photographs in the acknowledgement paper and put your signature on the signature box with a black pen only.
  • Now you have to send your acknowledgement receipt to the Income Tax Department along with your identity and resident proof within a time period of 15 days of online application.
  • PAN card number is sent to the applicant's registered mobile number and e-mail id once the validation process is over.

Through UTIITSL Portal

  • First, you have to visit the official website UTIITSL to apply for a new PAN card.
  • On the top bar click on the drop-down box of Services and select PAN card.
  • Under the drop-down box of PAN, Card select Apply PAN card to start the procedure.
  • Now click on PAN card as an Indian Citizens/NRI.
  • Click on Apply for new PAN card(Form 49A) and it will be redirected to a new page where you have to select Digital Mode to apply for your PAN through online.
  • Now fill your all personal and obligatory details.
  • Once you finished check all your given details thoroughly and click on the submit button which is located on the bottom of the page.
  • Click on submit and the now you will be redirected to the payment page, where you have to pay charges of Rs 94.
  • You can pay the amount by Cheque or DD in favour of NSDL or you can also pay the charges through e-payment like credit card, debit card or net banking.
  • After the successful payment, you will get an acknowledgement number page which you have to take a print out.

Offline PAN Card Apply

  • Download the Form 49A from NSDL or UTIITSL portal and take a print out of it.
  • Now mention your all personal and obligatory details
  • The mentioned details must be relevant to your identity proof and resident proof.
  • Affix your recent passport size colour photograph along with your all documents.
  • Now submit your form along with the all attached documents in the nearest NSDL office or UTIITSL PAN service centre along with the application charges of Rs 94 through DD, cash or e-payment.
  • PAN card number is sent to your registered mobile number and e-mail id once the validation process is over and the you will get your new PAN card within 20 working days.

Points to Keep in Mind While Applying for a New PAN Card

  • Given personal details in the form must be relevant to the documents submitted.
  • Given resident address, mobile number and e-mail id must be correct.
  • The applicant must fill-up the Form 49A in block letters only.
  • Form of new PAN card will not be accepted if the old PAN card of the applicant is lost or stolen
  • While applying online the scan copy of your photo must be of 300 dpi, colour, 213*213 pixel in JPEG format. (Size must be less than 30kb)
  • While applying online the scan copy of your signature must be of 600 dpi black and white in JPEG format. (Size must be less than 60kb)
  • The photograph should be clipped or stapled in the form.
  • Signature or Left thumb impression must be given across the affixed photo in such a manner that the portion of signature or thumb impression is on photo as well as the Form also.
  • Signature or Left thumb impression must be provided within the box on the left side of the Form.
  • The signature should not be on the photograph affixed on the right side of the Form.
  • In case of thumb impression, it must be attested by a Gazetted Officer or Magistrate under official seal and stamp.
  • AO code, AO type, Range code. Area Code of the Jurisdictional Assessing Officer must be filed up by the applicant in the Form. This code can be obtained from the PAN centres or Income Tax Office.

Can a person obtain more than one PAN?

Procure of more than one PAN is against the law. Hence a penalty of Rs 10,000/- may be charged.

A facility of verifying PAN is available in the official website of Income Tax Department.

 

Is it mandatory to mention PAN in return of income?

Yes, it is mandatory to quote PAN in return of income. Hence a penalty of Rs 10,000 will be charged in case of any default.

 

I have PAN but not PAN card what should I do?

If you haven't received your PAN Card on your given address then you must apply for reprint of PAN card in Request For New PAN Card Or/And Changes In PAN Data Form.

 

Is there any TATKAL facility for allotment of PAN?

There is no any TATKAL facility for allotment of new PAN card.
